October 8, 2016

They tried on their Halloween costumes and then never got dressed after taking them off. I sent them outside to play and they were out there for a couple of hours playing like this. Yesterday Bailee was painting her toenails with mud and I thought it was a good mix of girlie and tomboy :)

Nature Club

We had our second week of Nature Club and it was amazing! The moms that set it up went above and beyond. This group will be our science for now and we go every Wednesday morning. Last week we went on a scavenger hunt and played at the park as the introduction to the group. They had cute little goody bags for the kids with a little plastic snake, playdough and a sucker. They made imprints in the playdough with their snakes and loved playing with friends. This week the theme was oceans. 5 stations were set up and we had a worksheet to ask specific questions at each station and just let the kids experience the activities. The picture I took of the water/sand table was after kids had played in it, but at the beginning it was clear water and there were a bunch of different sea creatures in there for the kids to name. Another station was comparing salt to fresh water, another one was using measuring tape to see how long some sea animals are, looking at shells through magnifying glass, sand through a microscope, and then had science journals where they could draw a picture and write about their observations. The girls loved the butterfly nets and Bailee even caught a couple. I am really excited for what they will do at this group!

Conference weekend

Conference weekend was wonderful other than missing Dave for the majority of the sessions. The girls did really well and wanted to be in the living room with me. I made monkey bread as usual and tried a new activity for Bailee. She loved doing conference bingo and when she got 5 in a row she had a special treat. Most of the time the girls just listened, colored, or played quietly. Elise loves President Uchtdorf and anytime he was at the stand she would get excited and let us all know that he was speaking. Bailee remembered most of their names from our last FHE where we matched them with their baby pictures. She had each of their little pictures in a row up by the T.V. and when they spoke she would move them to a 2nd row so she could keep track of who we had heard from.

Between sessions of conference we went over to our friends, the Lymans, so I could visit with Rachel and her mom about personal progress. John entertained the girls, running around and playing. About 5 minutes before the last session of conference on Sunday, Elise came up to me and said, "Mommy, I so tired! I had a long day!" She climbed in my lap and was asleep in a minute. It was heavenly to soak her up while watching.

Between sessions we went over to the marina because it was the start of "Cruisin' the coast" which is a HUGE event of classic cars that drive around Biloxi and surrounding cities for a week! It was so fun to see all of the cars and the girls were more interested than I expected. We took a picture by the blue one because it reminded me of Grandpa Barrett's car that we hope to get a ride in someday ;) Bailee also really liked the Betty Boop car and I pointed out that it was made the year Nana was born. She thought that was pretty neat.
